Stunning Larrakeyah Home with Iconic Light Display Heads to Auction

The Larrakeyah residence known for its vibrant Christmas light displays is set to be auctioned, featuring luxurious renovations and outdoor living spaces.

The renowned Larrakeyah residence at 18 Temira Crescent, famous for its dazzling Christmas light displays, is scheduled for auction this month. This remarkable two-storey red brick home combines modern interiors with extensive outdoor entertaining areas and lush tropical gardens, appealing to those seeking an inviting family environment.

Situated in a prime location, the property showcases bedrooms on the ground floor and a generous upstairs living space that enhances the flow of natural light and entertainment options. The front facade features a sweeping staircase, making it an ideal setting for the captivating light displays.

Having purchased the property 23 years ago, the current owners have made substantial renovations, particularly in 2017, when they undertook a major overhaul. “My husband and I raised our three children here,” the wife commented. “We loved the size, the location, and the solid brick construction.” The insulating properties of the solid brick walls also ensured a peaceful atmosphere, even with children playing music indoors.

In 2011, the couple upgraded the pool area, adding new decking and a veranda. By 2017, they reconstructed the home almost entirely. “We gutted the entire place—new electrical, plumbing, and ceilings were all part of the transformation.” She emphasized their effort to keep the home's essence while modernizing its features, showcasing unique mosaics as a reference to the original 1960s design.

The remodeled property boasts a new laundry area and an ensuite equipped with a two-way toilet for convenience. “I adore the spacious living areas and the balcony,” she noted. “And I’ll truly miss the butler’s pantry,” she added fondly.

The ground floor offers a front veranda, a cozy sitting area, and a modern family bathroom with a tub and shower. The master suite comes complete with a walk-in wardrobe and a luxurious ensuite featuring dual basins and a double shower. The remaining three bedrooms provide built-in robes with direct access to the back veranda, overlooking the pool and entertaining deck.

Transitioning to the second level, a sprawling indoor-outdoor living space awaits. The expansive open-plan kitchen, dining, and living areas lead seamlessly to front and rear verandas through elegant French doors. The contemporary kitchen features sleek cabinetry, granite countertops, and an ingeniously concealed butler’s pantry, complete with additional storage and facilities.

The outdoor area is perfect for gatherings, with a covered deck overlooking the in-ground pool, providing ample space for barbecues and alfresco dining. Downstairs, the pool area not only offers recreational opportunities but is also designed for entertainment.

Having hosted numerous family Christmases and choirs, the owners have fond memories of the gatherings that took place on the expansive deck. “We frequently had parties with up to a hundred guests,” the owner reminisced.

The property is also characterized by its double carport, fenced yard, and meticulously groomed tropical gardens—thanks to the owner’s husband, whose passion for gardening flourished after retirement. “He took the time to nurture the gardens, which truly adds to the charm of the home,” she stated.

Interestingly, the home's legacy as a festive spectacle took root in 2020 when their son initiated the much-loved Christmas light display. “We came home one day, and he was measuring our house for decorations,” she recalled. What began as a humble display quickly evolved into an impressive spectacle, attracting onlookers from the surrounding areas.

“We even had families traveling from Girraween or Herbert each Friday night, bringing blankets and food just to watch,” she shared with pride. However, with the sale of the home, this cherished tradition may end, unless the new owner is interested in acquiring both the property and the extensive collection of Christmas lights. “The lights are available for sale; a buyer interested can certainly make a deal,” she mentioned, signaling a potential continuation of this festive legacy.

As they prepare for the transition, the owners cherish their experiences, emphasizing the community connection fostered by the light displays and neighborhood caroling nights. “Neighbors would come, and we’d all have a good time together,” she reflected.
